Transforming Lives: The Heart and Soul of The Colour of Love NPO
At The Colour of Love NPO, every whisker, purr, and meow tells a story of resilience and hope. Serving the communities of Boksburg, Benoni, and surrounding areas, we are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of feral cats. Our mission goes beyond just providing food; it extends to offering sanctuary, medical care, and humane management of cat populations.
What Drives Our Mission?
Feral cats face immense challenges, from hunger to diseases caused by harsh living conditions. Our journey began with a heart-wrenching experience—a sick kitten found in a builder’s yard opened our eyes to the plight of these animals. Here are key components of our mission:
- Lifetime Sanctuary Care: 153 cats call our sanctuaries their home, receiving food, shelter, and veterinary care.
- Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR): A compassionate and effective method to control feral cat populations.
- Active Feeding Schemes: Regular feeding routes ensure feral colonies are nourished and cared for.
- Adoptions & Fostering: We work tirelessly to tame and rehome young kittens.
The Power of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR)
Our TNR program is at the heart of humane feral cat management. Here’s how it works:
- Humane Trapping: We humanely trap feral cats from various locations.
- Medical Care: Cats are taken to our veterinary partners for sterilization and vaccinations.
- Safe Return: Once recovered, cats are returned to their original habitat, ensuring colony stability.
Why is this important? Feral cats form strong bonds with their territories. Removing them can lead to a new cycle of unsterilized cats moving in. TNR helps maintain a healthy, stable population, reducing suffering over time.
Sanctuary for Those in Need
For cats who cannot return to the streets, our dual sanctuaries offer a safe haven:
- Secure Environment: Each sanctuary is equipped with insulated shelter and constant care.
- Nutritional Support: We provide regular meals and medical treatment for chronic conditions.
Feeding Schemes: Sustaining Our Feral Friends
Regular feeding is essential for every feral cat's health. Our structured feeding schedules ensure that no cat goes hungry:
- Feeding runs provide nutritious meals and fresh water at least twice a week.
- Quantities are tailored to support entire colonies between visits.
Fostering Young Lives
While adult feral cats are happiest in their environments, young kittens caught during TNR operations can be socialized and adopted. Our kitten fostering program helps:
- Provide a safe space for young kittens to grow and thrive.
- Rehome them into loving families, transforming lives one adoption at a time.
